Your answer is in fact wrong; you assumed that in the question, the 3 in "sin x + 3" is part of the input for the sin function. Since there were no brackets, sin x + 3 = sin(x)+3, and hence the computer's answer was not crap but correct.
The key point is that sin(x+3) is very different from sin x + 3.
I'm a sophomore attending the University of North Dakota who is majoring in Computer Science (minoring in Space Studies) and likes to play video games, not to mention talk about them. Something tells me that you won't get half the things I talk about.
Favorite video game genres include adventure, JRPG, old-school platformers, and, to a limited extent, shooters. Favorite series basically consist of Shin Megami Tensei, Metroid, Poke'mon, and Okami.

On the other hand, everyone else in the class had problems with parenthesis and what the computer meant, too.
